Okay, so I dismissed The History Channel's UFO Hunters as boring and a rip off of Ghost Hunters. Thanks to my TiVo having better taste than I do and recording the show anyway, I know now that I was totally and completely wrong - just about as wrong as it's possible to be.
In a time when there are so many recycled UFO documentaries all over cable (many of them that set out to debunk from the onset), UFO Hunters is fresh and new and - gosh golly! - actually bringing some exciting insights and learning to UFO reserach.
Like the show in which they discovered a rare blood anomaly common to two guys in different states experiencing escalating levels of UFO contact.
And the episode where they proved that those California "drone" photos were most likely Photoshopped hoaxes. (Something I already suspected which is the reason I've never blogged about them.)
And the fascinating show in which they debunked the debunkers with regards to the seminal Rendelsham Forest event in which trained military observers on a top secret U.S. base in the U.K. saw lights and a craft on two separate nights. (To make the UFO interest even spookier, Rendelsham is widely believed to have been a depository for nuclear weapons aimed at the Soviet Union.)
And this week - Wednesday at 10 on the east coast - they'll be in Stephensville, Texas to explore the possibly ground-breaking mass sightings that have been taking place there for the last few months. On the show's home page, they are featuring some new video they uncovered there and it clearly shows some kind of light beam. To my knowledge, this is the first TV exploration (other than Larry King) of this very exciting case and I can't wait to see what they've found.
Here's something else exciting about UFO Hunters: The team features Ted, an MIT, Columbia, and Stanford-trained Ph.D. People with those kind of credentials just don't dirty their academic hands with UFO reserach and the perspective he brings to the table is immensely valuable. I also like Pat who comes off as satisfyingly skeptical, but willing to be convinced. It's fair to say that, while he's definitely a believer, he's no push-over. And I think that's just how it should be.
So, words eaten. Crow consumed. UFO Hunters is an exciting show. I can only hope the word is getting out about this show because it clearly isn't cheap to produce. Here's hoping for huge ratings for The History Channel so they'll be tempted to spring for more.
To truly enjoy watching this program is to have an open mind to the
possibilities of the unknown.Plain & simple. Looking up to the skies, we
sometimes wonder about our place in the universe. We may not have all the
answers to our questions. But curiously is fundamental to our being. It is
what makes us human.Plus, I think I'm in love with Jeff Tomlinson, the
young intern (!!??)
The UFO Hunters were not fair with the drone program. The reason why was
they only had James Carrion (MUFON) to get information from. Considering
that he had absolutely no involvement with the drones nor did he do any
research (except for one particular drone where he had the photos looked at
by a CGI artist), they shouldn't have accepted what he had to say as the
gospel since there were 14 drones and not one. What I'm talking about was
all off camera of course. There is a lot I could tell you about that but
it's not important. What is more important are that the drones had come
back to life about the time that program aired. Please go here and you'll
see what's been going on over the past month or so. Below, there are 5
newer stories on the drone so be sure to scroll through the whole page AND,
there's another drone that just popped up a few days ago in Scott's Valley,
California. So this thing about the drones is far from over.
Thanks to both of you for posting! Alien_Contactee, thanks for posting the
link. I am very aware of how the media can twist things with regards to
the UFO issue and I've been a member of MUFON for years. After reading
your post, I'll agree with you that the door is far from closed on the
drones and I remain skeptically interested. Frankly, I thought the program
interviews with John Schluesser (former MUFON president) made it clear that
he believes that reverse engineering is real - and he should know, I think
- and the show left the door open. Editing content iabout such
astoundingly complex issues into 43 minute shows isn't easy, but so far
I've been pleased with the way UFO Hunters is handling things. And, as I
wrote, I'm looking forward to their take on Stephensville.
I have it on good authority that History Channel's UFO Hunters has been
picked up for a second season. Way to go gentlemen! Kudos Dr. Birnes, Pat
Uskert, Ted Ackworth and the blue-eyed,GORGEOUS Jeff Tomlinson !!! Looking
forward to Season Two !!!!!!
