Lost: Four Days and Counting

posted Sunday, 27 January 2008

In case you haven't seen it, here is a "leaked" (ha-ha!) clip from one of those Dharma orientation videos in which matters go a bit awry.  Note that Dr. Marvin Candle now seems to have a new name and I'll wonder right along with you what the hell is happening here.

Word has it that we're continuing with that big plot change that occured at the end of season three (I'm trying to avoid spoilers here for our international readers who may not be caught up) and, for my money, that promises to bring an exciting new dimension to the eight (sob!) episodes that begin this Thursday.

This writer's strike is really getting in my way now, you know?  Nip/Tuck is running out (it's been an off season, anyway). The Office is long gone.  And True Blood, which was slated to start this month, is indefinitely on hold.  To make matters even worse, I am officially getting concerned that Mad Men won't be ready for our promised second season this summer.

Hey, I need my Don Draper fix.

Edited to Add More Geeky Details:  Okay, that classic subliminal super in there says something about "God loving Jacob".  If anybody can figure out how to still frame it, please share what you see!  And here's what Wikipedia has to say about the Casimir Effect:

"In physics, the Casimir effect or Casimir-Polder force is a physical force exerted between separate objects due to resonance of all-pervasive energy fields in the intervening space between the objects. This is sometimes described in terms of virtual particles interacting with the objects, due to the mathematical form of one possible way of calculating the strength of the effect. Because the strength of the force falls off rapidly with distance, it is only measurable when the distance between the objects is extremely small. On a submicrometre scale, this force becomes so strong that it becomes the dominant force between uncharged conductors. In fact, at separations of 10 nm — about 100 times the typical size of an atom — the Casimir effect produces the equivalent of 1 atmosphere of pressure (101.3 kPa).

Dutch physicists Hendrik B. G. Casimir and Dirk Polder first proposed the existence of the force and formulated an experiment to detect it in 1948 while participating in research at Philips Research Labs. The classic form of the experiment used a pair of uncharged parallel metal plates in a vacuum, and successfully demonstrated the force to within 15% of the value predicted by the theory."1

Sandy -- Lionsgate, the company that produces Mad Men, has come to a separate interim agreement with the WGA, which means that those writers are free to work on scripts for the new season. You're in luck.

As for Lost, I agree...I can't wait!! Though I wish we were getting all 16 :).

Woo hoo, Jessica! Thanks so much for the great news about Mad Men. I'm TiVoing it and watching the series again and, if possible, I'm even more impressed with it the second time around. As for Lost, it's a bite in the butt, especially after the l-o-o-o-n-g wait. But, again, thanks for the news about Mad Men. That's the best piece of info I've heard in a while.

I am excited about LOST finally coming back too, but am so dissappointed in only 8 episodes.sigh. It is a different kind of show that I love and hope doesn't get cancelled for a long time. I hope the strike ends not only for us,the viewers but for all the other people and families effected.
