Just click on the icon to your right, or click the blog title to open the post, then click on the smaller icon at the end of this blog entry) to listen to the 19-minute conversation I had with Linda Howard at the RWA conference in San Francisco. The podcast will download into your computer's iTunes or any other software you use to listen to audio files. (The podcast link doesn't seem to work in Apple Safari, but it works just fine in FireFox for Mac.)
Among our topics: Death Angel, Linda's newest book; the paranormal; her favorite books and characters; and - you asked for it! - we even have a few words (literally) from the incomparable Blair.
A disclaimer here: This was my first podcast and I so hear things I would have done differently. But, while my technical and live interview skills need refining, the guest just doesn't get any better.
And, once again, thanks so much to Linda. To say that she has demands on her time at the busy National conference doesn't begin to cover it and I am beyond grateful that she took the time to chat with me. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Let us know what you think in the comments section and be sure to check back here and at AAR for more to come in the weeks ahead.
Oh, I've been SOOO frustrated! This went up while I was at work so I
couldn't listen until I got home (there's only so much fun stuff I can do
while at work!).
Glad you enjoyed it, LinnieGayl. It was certainly fun to do.
What a great interview. :-) Thank you so much. I love LH's books and am
looking forward to reading Death Angel.
I really liked hearing what Linda Howard had to say about her characters,
especially Blair and Diaz, not to mention the characters from Death Angel.
It was interesting how she described them as "people" when she's writing
the book, and "characters" when she is finished. I also enjoy getting to
hear her voice--somehow it makes her more real to me--as if she's a friend
of mine instead of just my favorite author. The only thing I didn't like
hearing is that she is a book-a-year author. I wish she were faster.
Thanks, Sandy for the awesome interview and for sharing it with us in such
a cool manner.
Thanks Nell and Nikki for commenting. The podcast has been downloaded over
700 times and the lack of feedback was getting deafening, so thanks again.
Next up is Lisa Kleypas. I think I can promise some technical improvements
with that one!
Sandy, I'd actually be genuinely curious to know what types of technical
improvements you'd make. I listened to it in itunes, and was really
surprised to see that there were little segment headings for different
parts of the interview...rather like the titles for different tracks on a
cd. Was that hard to do?
Actually, it wasn't that hard. Not sure I'll do it again, though, because
it is just one continuous thing. Technically, I want to even out the sound
a bit and smooth out the editing. A friend who is a musician sat down with
me for about half an hour this week and taught me a lot -- stuff that
wasn't in any of the technical guides online or anywhere. (Hey, even Apple
is not perfect!)
I finally had time to listen to the interview! Great job, by the way.
I've never read Linda Howard, but I will certainly have to pick up her
books now. She seems like such a fun person that I'm sure her characters
have to be fun and interesting too. I look forward to hearing more.
Heather
Heather, you've never read Linda Howard and you listened to the podcast?
Wow, that's above and beyond. Thanks for listening and thanks for letting
me know you enjoyed it.
Very enjoyable to hear Linda's comments. Technically, I thought the
interview was fine, but just thought you could have tightened up your
interview tecnique and asked more questions rather than repeating the same
one several times. Very glad to hear her talk about "Cry No More" which
remains my favorite of all her non-series titles -- that book (and hero)
resonated with me for months afterwords. But I'm more of a fan of Linda's
"angsty" stories than her "llight" ones. I don't hate Blair, but would
rather sit next to her in a meeting and hear her snarky comments than read
another book about her.
As I said, CynV, it was my first podcast. And I do agree with your comment
in retrospect.
I enjoyed the podcast. I loved her comments on Diaz who is my all time
favorite hero. I would have liked to hear more of her feelings on some of
her older books.
Wow, it was great to hear Linda's interview! I am an Alabamian, and to
hear her speak was like listening to a relative. She has always been at
the top of my list. I just finished Death Angel -- could not put it down.
She just keeps getting better and better. Thanks for providing the
interview for us!
