Kitty Temper Tantrums

posted Thursday, 10 July 2008

Do your pets throw temper tantrums? If not, consider yourself lucky. My sweet Princess throws a whopper of a tantrum at least once a week....generally when I've misbehaved.

Today, after pulling my car into the garage, I had the audacity to go to check my mail rather than immediately going into my apartment. After picking up my mail, I walked past one of my front windows. There was Princess, clawing frantically (and this is a kitty whose front claws were removed before I ever became her mommy) on her chair in front of the window...a sure sign I had displeased her.

Once I walked in the front door, I was treated to ten minutes of yelling. Okay..in the future, I MUST enter the apartment immediately upon parking my car. After all, Princess is in charge, not me....sigh!

So tell me, just who is in charge here?

*laughing*

Our one cat will sit with her back towards you (back when she could see) and if you touched her she would give you the gears. Amber just can't hold a grudge though and would be belly up in seconds.

Emma shows displeasure by missing her box. Her newest thing however is standing upright on her back paws. She'll sit beside her food dish and water dish when they are empty and stand up. My cousin was here for a few days and couldn't believe how many times Emma would show her belly. Being a long haired kitty she matts up something fierce. A couple of weeks ago I was able to shave her belly without either of us having a stroke. I think she is so pleased with her short hair on her belly she just stands up so people will notice how pretty she is. Vain kitty. She also can't hold a grudge - you just have to tell her how pretty her toes are (she flexes them the minute you mention them) and she starts stretching and purring up a storm.

And yes. I am their peasant person.

She is, of course. Did you ever have any doubts? ;-)

Wanted to add that Rufus is a big snubber -- as in The Cut Direct. He will ignore me completely when I come home at an unacceptable hour and not even come out to greet me. About half an hour later, he will saunter out only to pointedly ignore me for an hour or so.

Our cat, Millie has 2 dogs to contend with so she doesn't have time for many antics, but she has her moments. She loves our sheltie BTW. She's never been close with the Beagle, even though they grew up together, but she's taken a shine to our little sheltie and they hang out together quite a bit. He respects her space, which is something the Beagle doesn't do. All space...is his space (whether you like it or not). As for antics...Millie has one. She is very much a night time cat and she does her prowling around the house when everyone is asleep. So, every night she hops up by me and insists I turn her way while she lies down and makes herself comfortable. If I don't turn, she will paw my head (without claws out) but if I don't turn she gets annoyed and will put her claws out and gently let me know she is there by pressing down her claws. I woke up one night half dreaming that my head was being cut somehow. Not pleasant!! She curls up by me for about 5 minutes, then she's off. I do leave her here with my husband an daughter when I venture up to our cabin with my dogs. She is quite indignant when I come back and ignores me for about half the next day. Eventually, she forgives me though and is back to her sweet self.

Lee, thanks. Mostly I can laugh at the temper tantrums too. Cindy, very cute about Emma and her toes! Sandy & Rosario, yep, clearly Princess is in charge here…and Sandy, very cute about Rufus giving you the “Cut Direct.” Princess prefers yelling her displeasure. Xina, ouch with the claws at night! Princess spends part of the night on the bed, and the remainder roaming around. Every once in awhile she gets lonely in the middle of the night, and will wake me up, crying pathetically, from the living room. I have to yell for her to come to bed, and she then does, purring all the way.
