Next February, those of us who love Connie Brockway's historical romances will have reason to celebrate when So Enchanting hits the shelves. Yep, that's right - the author of some of the best historical romances of all time is returning to the genre (and, okay, I am ecstatic about it).I spoke to Connie at last summer's RWA conference in San Franciso and, not only was she kind enough to take the time, she's also offering an advance copy of her new book to a lucky reader. And when I say "advance" that's exactly what I mean: The winner won't be receiving an ARC, but instead will get a final copy of the book as soon as it comes off the press in early December - two months in advance of the release date.
Cool, right? And, to keep the good news coming, readers are eligible for two chances to win. The first? Just listen to the podcast and answer this question: Like many readers, Connie is a big Laura Kinsale fan. What is the book she names as her favorite of the author's titles? All correct answers sent to aarblog@gmail.com will be entered for a first chance to win.
The second way to win is even easier. Just comment to this entry and you'll be eligible for a second chance to win your advance copy. The deadline for both is Tuesday, November 11 at 11:59 pm and the winner's name will be posted here on Wednesday morning. The uncorruptible and amazingly dexterous Rufus the Cat, he of the eminent qualifications, will once again perform the honors.
To listen to the podcast, just click on this post to open it, and then click on the little ear thing-y icon. The 13-minute file will automatically download to your computer's iTunes or into any other program you use to listen to audio files. (Really frustating to Mac users - hello, I'm one - this doesn't work in Apple Safari. FireFox works perfectly.)
Hope you enjoy the podcast - I had lots of fun doing them. Next up? Shana Abe. (Any with any luck, Connie will be watching the comments section. So, if you've got something to say go ahead and hit her!)
I have this book up top of my wishlist, sooooooo happy Connie's returned to
a historical, several of her books are on my alltime favorite book list. I
wouldn't even mind an arc to read it sooner. Connie, do you have plans to
do more historicals, I hope?
Hi Pam! Thank you.
Yes, I'm working on a second historical right ow (I mean it. RIGHT now.)
It's a regency set novel--which should be loads of fun as I haven't done a
classic regency for years--entitled THE GOLDEN SEASON.
It's a real shame that cat can't be bribed long distance.
Okay, I had to jump in and say just how much I enjoyed the interview, even
though I'm not eligible for the free book...sigh. Thanks so much for doing
this! I was particularly interested in Ms. Brockway's comments about
writing dark romances, in that she said she starts with something dark and
makes it darker, and also asks the question, "What sins are unforgiveable?"
My all time time favorite historical romance is As You Desire. I keep
hoping against hope that someday, we'll have another romance by Ms.
Brockway set in Egypt.
While I've enjoyed your contemporary novels, I'm glad to see you're
releasing a historical romance. Will you now be alternating genres or going
back to historicals?
I loved the Rose Hunters (and Hot Dish, too) and I am so looking forward to
this one!
I would love to win the book!!!! Rufus has failed me so many times
before... It's your time buddy!
I was so happy to hear you've got a new historical coming out, and now to
hear that you will be writing more? Be still my heart! You've written
some of my all time favorite romances and I am so looking forward to more
from you.
How wonderful! I love reading Connie Brockway - she's a fantastic author
and I would love to win this book!
Thanks so much, you guys. I really enjoyed writing SO ENCHANTING-- the
verbal battle between Grey and Fanny is some of my all time favorite. I
kept envisioning Clark Gable and Carol Lombard in IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT
(I'm a huge fan of old movies--especially romantic comedy.)
My ears perk right up at the mention of Connie Brockway + historical and,
especially, "verbal battle". Rufus, please consider practicing your
amazing dexterousness in the general direction of my name...
I'm so glad that she is coming out with a new historical. Please enter me
in the drawing.
Brockway rules! Can't wait for the book.
Yeah! I am so excited that Ms. Brockway is coming back to historicals!
She has written so many really excellent books and given me so much
enjoyment. My favorites are "As You Desire", "All Through The Night", "My
Dearest Enemy", "A Dangerous Man" and both "Bridal" books. LOL! I really
enjoyed the interview so thanks Sandy and thanks to you Mrs. Brockway.
Great interview in the podcast. I'm looking forward to So Enchanting --
just like everyone else! I thoroughly enjoyed the excerpt on your website!
I know that I can't win, but I just wanted to say that I enjoyed the
interview. I love it when authors share insights into their own books as
well as into the industry.
Heather B.
Kathy, I have the same favorites as you. I'm so glad to hear you'll be
alternating the genres, Connie, as so many of your historicals are up top
of my alltime favorites list. On your newsletter, of course, so I'll be
watching for those excerpts.
I am so excited to see Connie Brockway back in the historical genre. She's
written some of my favorite books.
I'm looking forward to reading this book when it comes out. I love old
romantic comedies too especially all that verbal sparring. My favorite is
His Girl Friday. The cover of the book is fab, you don't usually see a lot
of orange covers.
I'm so excited for this! "As You Desire" is one of my favorite books of all
time... I can't wait to read So Enchanting!!
Hi Connie,
I'm so happy that we can expect more historicals and contemporaries in the
future.
I love Connie Brockway stories, especially the historicals, so the new
upcoming one is a real treat. Thanks!
I love Connie Brockway; As you Desire is also one of my all time favorites.
Pick me Rufus!
I really enjoy reading Conne's books and have added this one to my TBR
list.
I have this book on my wish list. I would love to read. I love a good
historical. It is my favorite type of read. Bring on those historicals.
Yay, another historical romance to put on my TBR list. Historicals are one
of my favorite genres.
I'm so happy that Connie Brockway has written another historical romance. I
love all her books and cannot wait for So Enchanting to be released.
Connie,
I would love a chance to receive an advance copy of Connie's new
historical. As You Desire is still one of my all time favorite romances,
even after all these years.
I'm also happy that she has returned to historicals.
So excited for this book! All Through the Night is not only one of my all
time favorite books, and at the top of my favorite historical romance list.
Can't wait for January - or you know maybe December if I can win!
i'm so excited ms. brockway is returning to historial romances...can't wait
to read this book when it comes out!
I would love a chance to receive an advance copy of Connie's new
historical. I can't wait to read more and I'm glad that she's returning to
historicals.
Whoa; an advance copy of Brockway's newest book! I can't wait!
How nice to hear you talk about romance, Connie. You have been one of my
favorite writers since I started reading romances about ten years ago. I
loved your historicals and have missed them, but your contemporaries have
been great, too.You are astonishing in that you do both so well. Not that I
read many contemporaries - maybe one of every twelve books. "Hot Dish" had
me rolling on the floor with unrestrained laughter.
I have all your books and will be buying "So Enchanting" on its first day.
I'll probably buy it at Walmart, unless they don't have it. Then, I'll have
to drive the fifty miles roundtrip to Barnes&Noble in Daytona Beach -
doubling the cost of the book. I really miss living in the northern Detroit
suburbs where I had about ten bookstores within a half-hour's drive. :-)
I may go out searching for Laura Kinsale's book. I've never read that one
and I think it's been reissued. Thanks for the tip and for writing so many
wonderful books.
It's great news that Connie Brockway has a new historical coming out.
Thank you for the chance to win one.
Wow! Thank you, all! And Leigh YES, there is a GOOD chance Giles Strand
will be getting his own book soon. (which in publishing time means within
the next two years)
I too hope Giles gets his own story and his own heroine. He lost not only
Anne in "All Through the Night" but came in second in a previous book as
well. I found him intriguing and am happy to hear the long dark night of
his soul may soon be over (the scene in ATTN when he realizes the
difference between what Anne and Jack have and what he has -- or rather
doesn't -- is quite heartbreaking).
